Creative chief Daniel Lee presented the collection at Chelsea College of Arts in London, closing London Fashion Week with a colorful exploration of British identity, craftsmanship and the familiar codes of one of the country’s most recognizable fashion houses. At its center was a collaboration with legendary British textile designer Celia Birtwell, whose expressive patterns helped define the visual language of British fashion during the late 1960s and 1970s.
Celia Birtwell Enters the Burberry World
Rather than approaching Burberry’s heritage as something untouchable, Lee and Birtwell treated it as something that could be drawn over, softened and made personal.
Birtwell brought her hand-drawn florals, whimsical faces and irregular approach to pattern into the collection, including a playful reinterpretation of the iconic Burberry Check. The precise geometry normally associated with the house was broken into softer windowpane checks, stripes and gingham-like arrangements.
Her floral language appeared across printed, woven and embroidered surfaces, giving the collection an almost handmade quality. Birtwell’s influence felt especially fitting at Chelsea College of Arts, where the textile designer once taught.
The Trench Gets Lighter
The trench remained unmistakably Burberry, but Spring 2027 was less interested in stiffness and polish.
Lee explored lighter constructions, colorful surfaces and silhouettes that appeared lived in rather than pristine. Silk faille and taffeta trench dresses were embroidered with delicate floral motifs, while familiar outerwear shapes appeared beside stripes, pastel checks, denim and technical pieces.
There was a deliberate tension between the practical and the decorative. Florals covered surfaces traditionally associated with function. Bright colors disrupted neutral British outerwear. Hand-cut face motifs, pompoms, sequins and embroidered details appeared across clothing and accessories.
The approach gave some of Burberry’s oldest signatures a sense of spontaneity without removing their identity.
Intentional Imperfection
Lee described his attraction to clothes that do not feel completely perfect – pieces with a sense of youth, personality, and life already built into them.
That idea became one of the collection’s defining themes.
Rather than presenting heritage as something preserved behind glass, Spring 2027 suggested that the strongest traditions are often the ones people continue to wear, alter and make their own. Burberry’s check could become imperfect. The trench could become playful. Florals could sit beside technical outerwear and streetwear without one cancelling out the other.
That contemporary British attitude also extended to the casting. Central Cee made his runway debut during the presentation, bringing another piece of present-day London culture directly into the Burberry story.
