Hermès Spring 2027 Makes Leather Breathe
For Spring 2027, Hermès is confronting a question luxury fashion can no longer ignore: what happens to a house built around leather when the world keeps getting hotter? Nadège Vanhée’s answer is not to abandon the material that defines Hermès, but to rethink how it behaves. The collection is built around air, transforming traditionally substantial materials into clothing designed to feel lighter, cooler and more responsive to the body.
Presented in Paris, the collection explores transparency and ventilation through perforated suede, open-knit dresses, sheer panels, lightweight denim, silk and calfskin worked to an almost weightless finish. Vanhée approaches these materials with the precision expected from Hermès, but the effect is noticeably more relaxed. Leather appears in narrow strips layered over silk mesh, while suede jackets are opened with perforations and dresses reveal flashes of the body through transparent construction.
Function plays an equally important role. Zippers allow skirts and dresses to shift in length, while parkas are reconsidered as unexpectedly delicate wardrobe pieces. Pleated details reference the long blades of ceiling fans, bringing movement into leather jackets, skirts and dresses. Rather than treating warm-weather dressing as an excuse to simplify, Hermès turns ventilation itself into a design element.
The palette gradually increases the temperature. Creamy neutrals and cool blues make way for chocolate brown, sunflower yellow, saturated red and unmistakable Hermès orange. Against the collection’s lighter construction, those colors give the runway intensity without making the clothing feel visually heavy.
Accessories continue the same conversation. Slim clutches, bucket bags, crossbody silhouettes and fishnet-inspired details accompany barely-there sandals and flat leather boots. Thick leather cuffs add another expression of the house’s craftsmanship, grounding the collection even as much of the clothing appears designed to float around the body.
What makes Spring 2027 particularly effective is that Hermès does not attempt reinvention for reinvention’s sake. Vanhée works within the codes of the house and changes the engineering instead. Leather remains leather, craftsmanship remains central and functionality remains essential. What changes is the expectation that luxury needs physical weight to communicate value.
