The Excalibur Knights of the Round Table: The Metamorph Merlin closes the Maison’s Merlin trilogy with a miniature architectural landscape, hand-engraved pink gold and just 28 pieces.
Roger Dubuis has spent more than a decade bringing the legends of King Arthur to the wrist. Now the Swiss Maison closes its latest chapter with Excalibur Knights of the Round Table: The Metamorph Merlin, a limited-edition creation inspired by Merlin’s legendary ability to shapeshift.
The watch concludes a trilogy that began with Omniscient Merlin in 2024 and continued with Enchanter Merlin in 2025. This final interpretation turns to the mythical white stag, a symbol of transformation and movement between the visible and invisible worlds.
A Forest Reimagined in Haute Horlogerie
Rather than illustrating Merlin’s forest literally, Roger Dubuis constructs one.
The dial is formed from 57 individually crafted blocks positioned at different heights to produce an almost topographical landscape. Green CVD-coated elements meet polished pink gold, transparent glass and shimmering Crystalium, allowing light and perspective to continuously change the appearance of the dial.
The geometry draws on the hexagonal visual language introduced earlier in the series, itself inspired by the basalt columns of Northern Ireland’s Giant’s Causeway. It is a less conventional dial than miniature architecture.
The Knights Return
Standing around that landscape are the collection’s unmistakable 12 Knights of the Round Table.
Each pink-gold figure measures approximately six millimeters tall and requires around three days of specialist hand-finishing. Sculpting, engraving and black patina give the individual knights greater dimension, contrast and personality, but this time the storytelling does not stop at the dial.
For the first time in the collection, Roger Dubuis has transformed the pink-gold case itself into a narrative canvas. Entirely hand-engraved, its micro-relief scenes depict Merlin in human form as well as the mythical white stag.
Even the crown guards participate in the Arthurian story, taking inspiration from swords and referencing Excalibur.
Beneath the Legend
Inside sits Roger Dubuis’ automatic Calibre RD821, developed, manufactured and hand-finished in-house.
The 172-component movement was engineered to accommodate the watch’s three-dimensional dial while maintaining the Excalibur case’s proportions. Its finishing follows the requirements of the Poinçon de Genève certification, with Roger Dubuis applying 14 decorative techniques across the caliber.
The movement provides a 48-hour power reserve and operates at 4 Hz, or 28,800 vibrations per hour. A skeletonized 360-degree oscillating weight is visible through the caseback, inspired by the stained-glass windows of medieval castles.

A 45mm Final Chapter
The Metamorph Merlin arrives in a 45mm pink-gold case, paired with a green calf-leather strap and an interchangeable Quick Release System. Water resistance is rated to 30 meters.
Yet specifications only tell part of the story.
With 57 architectural dial elements, 12 miniature knights, hand-engraved representations of Merlin and a Geneva-certified movement, Roger Dubuis has treated the entire watch as a three-dimensional stage for one of mythology’s most enduring characters, and exclusivity is appropriately severe.
Only 28 pieces will be produced.
For Roger Dubuis, The Metamorph Merlin is not simply another Knights of the Round Table watch. It is the closing scene of a three-year exploration of Merlin — moving from omniscience, to enchantment, and finally transformation.
